Tips For Dangerously Freezing Temps
Hello Everyone! It is freezing cold throughout the United States this weekend. I just finished sharing different tips for dealing with these temperatures with my oldest daughter and I wanted to share the tips with you all as well. Below I’ve included tips for things that you should do with your car and apartment or home. Although it is vitally important to take care of your pipes during weather like this, it is even more important to take care of your heart and soul when facing the chilling situations of this life.
Delays, challenges, setbacks, hardships and more can have a chilling effect on our expectations for a good future. No matter what we face, we cannot give up our positive expectation for a great future. Positive expectation is hope. Without hope, we live in despair. If you’re feeling like your soul needs to warm up, I want to remind you that Romans 5:5 shares, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” If you are facing tough times right now, I want to remind you that God loves you and your best is still in front of you. During Christmas time, we are celebrating the greatest act of love — the arrival of our Savior. For all those who have placed their faith in Jesus, God has poured His love in your heart. That loves enables you to love others as well as view your future with hope because you know how much God loves you. Warm up your soul by saying this on a daily basis, “God loves me. He has planned a good life for me because He loves me. My future is bright because God loves me. My best is yet to come because God loves me. I will love others the way God loves me because He has poured His love into my heart.”
Have a Merry Christmas everyone! Always remember, as we learned in John 17, God loves you as much as He loves Jesus! His plans for your life are good! Enjoy your holiday weekend!
If you are traveling anywhere by car during times of freezing weather, it’s always wise to be aware of black ice and drive with caution over bridges. Also, this is not the time to let your car run low on fuel. Keep a good amount of fuel in your gas tank. It’s also wise to keep an extra sweatshirt, hoodie, or blanket in your car during the winter months. Where your home is concerned, here are some tips from the American Red Cross:
“A water drip can help prevent pipes from freezing because moving water freezes less quickly than standing water. If the water in your pipes moves continuously (even from a tiny drip), this can prevent it from freezing. If you’d like to save this water, you can place a container in your sink, tub, or wherever else your faucets are dripping. You can then use this water to take care of your plants or do various chores without getting more from the tap.
The water does not need to be a warm temperature for this to work. The idea behind this method is not to melt already-frozen ice but to stop the water from freezing in the first place. And because the cold and hot water in your house is likely separated, it’s the cold water plumbing you need to worry about.
No matter the strength of a container, expanding water can cause pipes to break….
Pipes that freeze most frequently are:
Pipes that are exposed to severe cold, like outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines, and water sprinkler lines.
Water supply pipes in unheated interior areas like basements and crawl spaces, attics, garages, or kitchen cabinets.
Pipes that run against exterior walls that have little or no insulation.
How to Prevent Frozen Pipes
Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.
Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children.
When the weather is very cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing.
Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night. By temporarily suspending the use of lower nighttime temperatures, you may incur a higher heating bill, but you can prevent a much more costly repair job if pipes freeze and burst. (Read More Here.)
