Practice Self-Disruption
Happy Taco Tuesday!
Last week marked the end of Netflix’s DVD business. Netflix began with quickly shipping rental DVDs to customers. We can oversimplify and summarize Netflix’s journey by saying that it was a great, innovative success. At the height of their DVD success, the decision was made to self-disrupt. They began to stream movies instead of just shipping them. The decision to self-disrupt led to Netflix being an even greater success. Self-Disruption isn’t just for innovative companies, it needs to be for you too.
You may be doing well. You may enjoy your level of success and are content with what you are experiencing. All of those things are good and goals to be desired. However, we must never grow complacent with the personal levels we achieve. Whenever we settle, we begin to slip.
It’s great that you reached your goal weight, but now set a goal of maintaining by eating healthy as a lifestyle. It’s great that your marriage is good, but set goals to make it wonderful. It’s great that you and your kids have a great relationship, but what can you do to take it to the next level? The first step of self-disruption is realizing that you can grow and become better.
In the Bible, it tells us that we need to walk in love, walk in the light, walk by faith, and walk in the Spirit. Walking is an idiom meaning to live. I love that “walking” is used because it reminds us it is a series of steps. We are always encouraged to keep moving forward with the life God has for us.
When we consider the Biblical force of hope, we understand that it is positive expectation. Positive expectation simply means that you always believe that good things are coming to you. To apply self-disruption successfully, you must be a person of hope. Know that God loves you, has more for you, and wants you to grow into the person He has called you to be. When you know this and are a person of hope, you can set greater personal goals. As you set these goals, you will disrupt your current level of living in pursuit of a greater way of living.
God has more for you. Don’t stay where you are. Keep growing. Keep moving forward. Keep walking with Him. Disrupt your normal and move into your future. Remember, self-disruption is a powerful tool for growth and reaching your full potential. Embrace the change and keep moving forward! I’ll share more about self-disruption in future blogs and practical steps to help you apply it.
